IPL 2018 Will be Going Best This Year

IPL matches are held all across the states. It has been a trend in the IPL that the city which bags the cup, hosts the opening ceremony of the next series.

As Mumbai Indians are the defending champions, it is expected that the first match would be played at Wankhede Stadium.

The opening ceremony is a gala event and like always this year too it is believed that Bollywood celebrities would give a scintillating performance.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 auction threw up some interesting trends on Day One. First, Indian batsmen commanded premium bids from all franchises.

Second, some celebrated international names went unsold. Third, wicket-keepers and wrist-spinners were in great demand, with several franchises using Right-to-Match (RTM) cards to retain their former players.

Stokes is expectedly the costliest overseas purchase. However, he fetched a bid lower than his salary past season (Rs 14.5 crore from Rising Pune Supergiants).

Nineteen-year-old wrist-spinner Rashid Khan was the most expensive bowler of the day. His name saw the most intense bidding war among four franchises, but Khan was retained by SRH who exercised their RTM on him.

ndian batsmen KL Rahul and Manish Pandey have been the talk of the town since this morning, after fetching a whopping Rs 11 crore from Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) respectively.

While Rahul’s base price was Rs 2 crore, Pandey’s was Rs 1 crore. Both batsmen have established themselves as formidable propositions in the Indian middle order, and franchises fell over backwards to get their services.

McCullum and Gambhir, both veterans of the game, managed to just about top their base price. Gambhir, who’s the fourth-highest run-getter in IPL and winner of two championship titles, makes a move from KKR to DD at a steal-worthy price. Even some uncapped Indian players have fetched more than him.

Founded by the BCCI, the IPL held its first tournament in 2008. Till 2012, IPL was sponsored by DLF, but in 2013, Pepsi took over. Pepsi paid an amount of about $72 million for a contract of five years.

However, in 2015, Pepsi pulled out as the sponsor of the mega tournament and instead Chinese smartphone maker Vivo bagged the IPL sponsorship for the next two years.

IPL 2018 is going to start and this will be great to watch.
